Text Box: “I was made aware of Reiki and its ability to help people enhance their own healing energy when my daughter, Erin Donnelly began to study it. By the time she had moved back to the Chicago area last fall, she had done extensive healing study and had reached master status in Reiki healing. Shortly after she arrived, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s follicular lymphoma. My symptoms were a lump on my neck under my left ear and some difficulty in completing deep breaths. I had not linked the two in my mind and was otherwise feeling fine. As soon as I was given the diagnosis of “highly suggestive” of lymphoma, Erin taught me the first level of Reiki so that I could administer it to myself. I found this to be helpful in easing my breathing some (especially at night) and in easing my uncertainty as to exactly what type of lymphoma I might have, a process that took an additional six weeks. During that time, she gave me Reiki at times as well as drumming therapy which I found to be very relaxing. She eventually taught me the second level of Reiki to help enhance my healing efforts and to allow me to send Reiki to others who could use a boost in their healing energy. When a definitive diagnosis was made and treatment options examined, I opted for a treatment called CVP Rituxan (Cytoxin, Vincristine, Prednisone). This would be administered at three week intervals during five hour infusions. Erin accompanied me to these infusions and administered Reiki energy to all of the drugs before infusion. She used a crystal wand and longer incantations with the Rituxan since it was the drug that was designed specifically to treat follicular lymphoma and took the longest to infuse. The nursing staff was open to the use of Reiki and several showed interest in learning further about its use in enhancing their care of cancer patients. I am happy to say that I responded well to the infusions with few side effects which were easy to counteract. I missed no work except on the days that I had the infusions since it took so long and the times offered were during working hours. I continued to use Reiki on myself during the course of treatment and could feel the “heat” going to the places that needed it. Although I had some increased hair loss, it did not necessitate wearing a wig nor have people worrying about my health. My latest scans taken five weeks after my last infusion came back negative and I am now on maintenance which will include Rituxan infusions at three month intervals for two years. This type of lymphoma does tend to recur, but I am hopeful that with continued use of Reiki and a few lifestyle adjustments, I will be able to reduce the likelihood of that happening any time soon. I would strongly recommend that anyone faced with chemo-therapy learn to self-administer Reiki and if possible have someone apply Reiki to their chemo bags before infusion as I did.” - Connie, Illinois
